Is garmin installing trojans on your computer?
Today I went to garmin.com to update my gps nuvi maps. I had to “install” their software so it can look at my computer for updating. The software is called the “Garmin Communicator Plugin”. I installed it and all a sudden my computer caught a trojan! It started to force me to buy “their” antivirus to remove their trojan. I had to reformat my computer.
Garmin is a pretty well respected outfit…I doubt if they would pull this crap intentionally.
More than likely they employ someone who doesn’t know what’s going on with website security, or the hosting service has been compromised (maybe an SQL injection?).
Contact Garmin & notify them, but don’t expect admission of guilt from them…they may not even know about this business.
Note that allowing ANY site to install something (via Plug-in’s, Active X, Flash, etc.) is always a risk, and as above mentioned by ‘Scott’ should be curtailed as much as possible.
