Practical Software Testing

Tips for software testers(freshers)…question for testers only.?

I am new to this…have done a little reading though. I’m a little apprehensive and nervous about starting a new job in something I know little about (I mean knowing practically….even if I take a course in QA and testing, which I plan to….I would still lack practical knowledge)…I know this happens to everyone at some point of time, but in my case I’m showing 2-3 years of experience.Any tips people?

Ok, if you are in the computer industry you have to get used to going into areas what you know little about. It’s a fact of life in our industry. No course can prepare you fully for what you need to do in real life.

What you have to do is develop your investigation, adaption and learning skills. I’ve been in the business since 1980, primarily in product development (designer, tester, test lead, manager, etc.). Couple of years ago I went to a new company and became an infrastructure architect. Every day I’m dealing with things I have only heard or read about but that cannot stop me. I read, I talk with people, I investigate, I ask experienced people questions.

Especially when you get into the field of testing, the only thing you get from courses and training is ideas and approach. You have to analyze each project you are own to figure out how do I test this; what is the approach I need to take; what are the requirements I have to prove; what tools do I have.
